Scott Rendell's first-half goal earned Cambridge United a win over mid-table Ebbsfleet to keep them in touch with the Blue Square Premier pace setters.

Ebbsfleet goalkeeper Lance Cronin was alert to thwart a Rendell header after just nine minutes.

However the U's went ahead just before the break, Rendell drilling into the corner from close range after Wayne Hatswell squared the ball across goal.

At the other end, Danny Potter saved a Mark Ricketts shot late on.
