Danny Gray kicked 17 points on his return to the Chiefs side. |
Exeter picked up their 11th bonus point of the season with an 11-try thrashing of Rotherham Titans at Sandy Park.
The Chiefs responded to leaders Leeds, who demolished Newbury 89-12 earlier in the day, by roaring into a 41-7 lead at the break with six first-half tries. Inside centre Paul McKenzie, full-back Sean Marsden and back-row Tom Johnson each got two tries. The Chiefs' other scores came from Chris Budgen, Nic Sestaret, Matt Jess, Tom Bedford and Richie Pugh. Fly-half Danny Gray marked his return by kicking seven conversions and a penalty, for a 17-point haul. His replacement for the last quarter, Gareth Steenson, then took over kicking duties, improving the final two ties of the afternoon. Rotherham managed three ties, from winger Jim MacDonald, prop Anton O'Donnell and replacement loose forward Sam Raven, all converted by scrum-half Jonny West. The thumping victory keeps second-placed Exeter three points adrift of the National League 1 leaders, ahead of next Saturday's trip to Doncaster (1400 GMT).
