Luctonians stay top of Midlands One but for the second week running it was a last-gasp victory. They trailed at Broadstreet in the last minute but Leon Mells on his debut crashed over for the winning try. Another debutant, wing Bruce Thomas, kicked a penalty to give them an early lead, and despite him striking another four through the posts Lucs trailed. Chris Jaques picked up a yellow card and Lucs defended in depth, before Mells' dramatic winner. Longton's Paul Green broke the deadlock with a 23rd-minute penalty, before Malvern conceded another penalty, apparently for talking back to the referee, and Green increased the visitors lead Hooker Martin Kent then scored the first try of the game for Longton to give Green another two points. Malvern had two men sin-binned and Longton took advantage of the numerical superiority to drive over for a 69th-minute try, from Nazewa, who then got himself sin-binned for a second time, so got the red card. With three minutes left, Malvern gained some consolation when the departing Huw Dimond in for a try and conversion before leaving for Italian rugby. Malvern director of rugby David Robins said: "This was a very poor performance and the lads know it. "They had a great chance to record a first league win against fellow strugglers but blew it totally. "Neither side seemed capable of much, but Longton did put pressure on the Malvern half-backs and that meant that we were on the back foot."
