Exeter Chiefs captain Richie Baxter is set to make his 300th appearance for the club at Bedford on Saturday.

The 30-year-old number eight has come up through the ranks at his hometown club since making his debut at Fylde 11 years ago.

"It has come as a bit of a surprise that this game could be my 300th," Baxter said.

"It is something I am very proud of, it's just one of those things that sneaks up on you."

He could fit into any Premiership team easily and I believe he could even get international honours

Chiefs director of rugby Pete Drewett
Chiefs director of rugby Pete Drewett was full of praise for his leader.

"How often can anybody say they've seen Richie Baxter have a bad game? He just always plays well," he told BBC Radio Devon.

"There's no doubt about it, he could fit into any Premiership team easily and I believe he could even get international honours.

"We're very lucky that he's committed himself to this club and is so committed to the club," Drewett added.
