A crop of young rugby players from Norfolk have the talent to make it all the way to the top of the game according to Leicester Tigers scout Jon Curry. Several players from the county are already part of the Tigers academy set up and have represented England in their age groups. The Guinness Premiership outfit recruit promising players from the area for their Elite Player Development Centre. "There are one or two guys in the set-up from Norfolk that I think might go all the way," said Curry. Norwich brothers Tom Youngs, 21, and 18-year-old Ben were both involved in the Leicester Tigers recent friendly against Biarritz and have played for England Sevens. | Forty per cent of the Tigers academy squad are from Norfolk, this is a fantastic achievement" Leicester Tigers scout Jon Curry |
Norfolk's Josh Goldspink, 17, also featured in the game and Calum Green, 18, made his first-team debut. Seven players from the county were also in the academy squad for the win over Cardiff Blues earlier this month. Jon Curry is responsible for putting forward young players from Norfolk for the Tigers' development centre, a programme responsible for guiding potential England stars into their academy squad. The centre also recruits from all over the Midlands but almost half of the players there are from Norfolk. "Forty per cent of the Tigers academy squad are from Norfolk, this is a fantastic achievement," said Curry. He added that the Youngs brothers, who formerly played at North Walsham, have been shining examples of what young players can achieve. "They have led the way and given players in Norfolk that aspiration. They worked hard towards it and the benefits are being seen. "I'd like to think Ben Youngs will make it [to play for England] and I'd love to see his brother Tom get a shout one day. We will have to wait and see if the others will be able to make the grade. There are a few who are going to be there or thereabouts."
