Cambridge have signed former Welsh under-21 international fly-half Craig Evans as competition for current number 10 Ben Patston.

Evans, 23, who can also play at full- back found his playing opportunities limited at Cardiff in the Welsh League last season.

Cambridge coach James Shanahan said: "We've tried to get competition in each position and that's what we've done.

"It gives us options at 10, they can both play 15 and they're goal kickers."

Shanahan told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "I think he [Evans] had a couple of games for Cardiff Blues [last season] but then was predominantly playing for Cardiff in the Welsh Premiership.

"He was just looking for a change, looking to move out of Wales and was happy with the level of ambition Cambridge have."
