Bill Beaumont Cup holders Devon were dethroned after being outgunned 33-13 by Yorkshire's pack at Twickenham. The experience of Yorkshire's forwards was too much as Devon went down to only their second defeat in five successive appearances at Twickenham. Once they breached Devon's defence late on in the first half, Yorkshire ran away with it, scoring four tries to Devon's one, which was a penalty try. And Graham Dawe's fledglings had to accept the 20-point losing margin. It meant a bad weekend of County Championship rugby for the South West as Cornwall also lost at Twickenham, going down 25-11 in the Shield final against Northumberland.
