Mark Hewitt's men dropped to fifth in National League One after going down 24-17 at third-placed Nottingham. Pirates took the lead when scrum-half Ed Fairhurst scored the opening try.
Nottingham soon re-grouped and lead 16-7 at the break before pushing 24-10 ahead in the second half before winger Brian Tuohy scored a late try.
Hewitt told BBC Radio Cornwall: "Our line-out didn't really function particularly well and we couldn't find good field positions."
