 Tuqiri's decision to stay ends a long-running saga |
Former rugby league international Lote Tuqiri has signed a new five-year deal with the Australian Rugby Union (ARU) and New South Wales Waratahs. South Sydney were reportedly keen to take the winger back to rugby league and his future had been in the balance for several months.
"It's great news," said NSW Rugby Union chief executive Fraser Neill.
"We're relieved it's out of the way so we can concentrate on the Western Stormers in Super 14 this weekend."
The 27-year-old had reportedly been considering a return to rugby league after the World Cup, and rejected an offer worth 1.6m last year, before the ARU grew tired of waiting and made him a take-it-or-leave-it offer, believed to be worth less.
The Waratahs wing has scored 25 tries for his country since switching codes in 2002 and is expected to be a key part of Australia's World Cup challenge in November.
He started his professional career in league with the Brisbane Broncos, amassing 250 points in 99 appearances between 1999 and 2001.
