Getting the ball in space, Clerc - ignoring the players outside him - spotted Neil Best drifting wide before beating John Hayes, Denis Hickie and Paul O'Connell to score.
But that was far from his only contribution, with a series of dangerous runs and some impressive kicking from hand.
