Geraghty is in the England senior squad for the first time

"At the time I was doing some shopping," the 20-year-old London Irish half-back told BBC Radio Berkshire.

"(Exiles coach) Brian Smith phoned me to say: "you're in the England squad" but I thought he meant the Saxons.

"I was so happy but then I got another call to confirm I was in the first team, and then I was even more shocked. I've been in a dream world since."

Geraghty was included in a new-look 33-man senior squad as head coach Brian Ashton looks to arrest a dismal run of form.

The Coventry-born player has played for Ireland at Under-16 level but has since represented England Under-18s, 19s and 21s.

And despite his Irish heritage, Geraghty had no qualms about wearing the white shirt of England.

"I did play for Ireland but I have been through the academy system here and I have lived here my whole life so this is where my heart is," he added.

"I had no inkling that this was coming.

"I knew a squad was being announced but I try and keep away from things like that and keep my head down at London Irish."

Geraghty admits he will be looking to team-mate Mike Catt for guidance when he meets up with the rest of his England colleagues later this month.

"I don't know any of the players apart from watching them on TV," he said. "Hopefully Mike will look after me there.

"I've met Jonny Wilkinson once before when London Irish were training against England.

"It's going to be a bit different this time, wearing the England kit and training with him. I can't wait."

Geraghty added that although his current contract with Irish runs out at the end of the season, he hopes to be able to sign a new deal.
