Edwards is Wasps' defence guru |
Wasps head coach Shaun Edwards has signed a new three-year contract as the club plan for the forthcoming departure of director of rugby Warren Gatland. Gatland returns to New Zealand at the end of the season, with Wasps looking to recuit someone to work with Edwards.
"I look forward to continuing to work with a hungry and dedicated group of players," Edwards said.
"We are privileged to have a coach of Shaun's calibre," added Wasps chief executive David Davies.
Edwards, one of the most decorated players ever in rugby league, joined Wasps as an assistant coach in October 2001 after retiring from playing due to injury.
Alongside Gatland he has helped Wasps win two successive Zurich Premiership titles, the Parker Pen Cup and, last season, the Heineken Cup.
"I'm very happy to extend my contract at Wasps," Edwards added.
"My time with the club has coincided with an incredibly difficult time in my personal life, throughout which the players and staff at Wasps have been a huge help and support to me.
"I feel Wasps is a home away from home for me."
