Paul has been a pivotal figure for the England sevens side |
The Premier Rugby League (PRL) has backed Gloucester's bid to prevent Henry Paul playing for England in this weekend's Hong Kong Sevens tournament. The Rugby Football Union is threatening to use the IRB's 'rule nine' to bar Paul from playing for 10 days, if he is not made available for England.
The PRL said a ban would be a breach of protocol and has asked the RFU to withdraw the imposition of rule nine.
It said: "We are disappointed the RFU has resorted to IRB rule nine."
Paul has been a key player in the England sevens side, which from Friday will be defending their title at the three-day tournament in Hong Kong.
