England are gunning for a hat-trick of titles in Hong Kong |
England have called up four full internationals as they bid for an unprecedented hat-trick of Hong Kong Sevens titles next week. Gloucester centre Henry Paul, London Irish's Geoff Appleford, Harlequins flanker Pat Sanderson and Leeds back Dan Scarborough make the grade.
The 12-man squad, without the injured Phil Greening and Tony Roques, will be captained by Simon Amor.
"We've got a strong squad and it needs to be," said coach Joe Lydon.
"Although we do not have Tony Roques and Phil Greening available because of injury, seven of the core squad will be playing, and eight of the 12 selected were part of the winning England teams in Hong Kong in 2002 and 2003."
England are currently second in the World Cup Sevens standings.
England squad: Amor (Gloucester, capt), Appleford (London Irish), Baxter (Leicester), Dowson (Newcastle), Gollings (Newcastle), Haughton (Saracens), Horstmann (Harlequins), Paul (Gloucester), Richards (Wasps), Sanderson (Harlequins), Scarbrough (Leeds), Thirlby (Penzance and Newlyn).
