Blacklock joins Waratahs
Nathan Blacklock is tackled
Blacklock is eyeing a future with the Wallabies
Nathan Blacklock has signed to play for New South Wales Waratahs in next year's Super 12 rugby union series.

The leading try-scorer in the Australian National Rugby League for the past three seasons was released from his contract with the St George Illawarra club three weeks ago.

Blacklock said he was excited by the code switch - he follows Wendell Sailor and Mat Rogers, who are already in the Wallaby squad to play France on Saturday.

He said: "It's a big challenge, but this is a breath of fresh air for me. Signing with the Waratahs has put a smile on my face.

"I am not expecting miracles and I have a lot to learn, but there is no question the World Cup next year is also in the back of my mind.

"There are so many talented players in the game with so much experience, but life is all about taking up challenges and overcoming the odds."

Positive attitude

Waratah coach Bob Dwyer said Blacklock has the skills and speed to be a huge success in rugby union.

"Anyone who watches Nathan play can figure pretty quickly just how good he is. We have been talking for some time now and I'm thrilled that he's backed himself.

"From a coaches' perspective I am convinced he's made the right decision," said Dwyer, Australia's 1991 World Cup-winning coach.

New South Wales Rugby Union executive director John McKay said: "This has been a very easy negotiation for us.

"Nathan is an outstanding footballer who comes to us with an absolute determination to make his mark on the game."

"There is enormous opportunity for Nathan in rugby and we are delighted with his approach to the game both on and off the paddock."
