Ainscough has made 12 appearances in a Wigan shirt

Wigan Warriors have recalled on-loan winger Shaun Ainscough from Super League rivals Castleford.

The 20-year-old joined the Tigers on a month-long deal in February before it was extended in March up to the end of the season.

Mounting injuries at Wigan have forced the league leaders to exercise their 48-hour recall option.

Ainscough has made seven appearances while at the Jungle and scored four tries during his stay.

Castleford coach Terry Matterson said: "I'd like to thank Shaun for his time at the club and wish him well for the future.

"Wigan have lost a couple of players so need him back with the club.

"At this stage we are not able to say whether there is the possibility of his returning to the Jungle. With James Evans and Kirk Dixon back in action, and the continued development of Jordan Thompson, we are better placed in the three-quarters than in recent weeks."

Wigan coach Michael Maguire is expected to name Ainscough in his 19-man squad for the home game against Harlequins on Friday.
