Wigan have moved to quash speculation Brian Carney could make a return to the JJB Stadium after being released from his contract with Gold Coast Titans. Carney had been spoken of as a possible replacement if Chris Ashton moves to rugby union but chairman Maurice Lindsay said Wigan could not afford it.
"We have spent our salary-cap money," he said.
"If we lose Chris he would be an ideal replacement. He's a friend of ours but we've not been in negotiations."
