Endacott was sacked as Wigan coach in 2001 |
Former Wigan Warriors coach Frank Endacott believes the job has become a "poisoned chalice" following the sacking of Ian Millward. Australian Millward, 45, who took over as coach last May, was dismissed with Wigan bottom of the Super League.
Wigan have now had six coaches in seven years since Maurice Lindsay returned to the club as chairman.
"Unfortunately chairmen just look at the results and nothing else," Endacott told BBC Radio Manchester.
Endacott, the former New Zealand and Widnes coach, was at the helm at Wigan from December 1999 to May 2001.
"I was sacked with the team in second place, although I knew there was only one way out of Wigan and that was the sack," he said.
"The Wigan job has become a poisoned chalice and it'll be interesting to see who takes it on next."
Former Australia coach Chris Anderson, Wigan legend Shaun Edwards and former Warriors star Adrian Lam are possibilities for the permanent role.
Assistant coaches Stuart Wilkinson and Andrew Farrar will take charge of team affairs on a temporary basis.
