Warrington have extended Australian hooker Michael Monaghan's contract until the end of 2013.

The 30-year-old joined the Cheshire club from Manly Sea Eagles as a half-back on a four-year deal in 2008.

He successfully switched to hooker and starred in Wolves' Challenge Cup final win over Huddersfield last August.

Warrington head coach Tony Smith said: "There is no doubt in my mind that he is one of the best, if not the best, hooker in Super League."

Monaghan told BBC Radio Merseyside: "We've got a lot of players here signed up on long-term deals and I'm looking forward to continuing the progress we're making at the club.

"I didn't have too much consideration on heading back to Australia or my other options. As soon as the club mentioned they wanted me to re-sign I was happy to get it done.

"It's a pretty good sign as to where the club is at and where I think we can get to."
