Broomes has previously had spells with Stoke, Blackburn and Blackpool

Tranmere defender Marlon Broomes has signed a new one-year contract at Prenton Park.

The 32-year-old joined Rovers in September and went on to make 35 appearances last season.

Manager Les Parry said: "Marlon did really well for us last season and was one of our most consistent players.

"He showed how versatile he is by playing at centre-back and right-back and he is a very experienced, professional player."

Parry added: "I'm delighted he has agreed to stay with us for another season."

Broomes began his career with Blackburn Rovers, where he made 39 appearances and won two England Under-21 caps.

He joined Sheffield Wednesday in 2001 before having spells with Preston North End, Stoke City and Blackpool.
