Johns enjoyed his brief spell at Warrington in 2005 |
Australia legend Andrew Johns could return to Super League club Warrington next year, according to his former Newcastle team-mate Matt Gidley. Johns had a brief spell with Warrington towards the end of the 2005 season and is seriously considering returning to the Halliwell Jones Stadium in 2008.
"He was talking about having another stint with Warrington," said Gidley, who has moved to St Helens.
"It depends how things work out with Newcastle - whether he retires."
The 32-year-old Johns, regarded as the game's greatest player, had a three-game stint with the Wolves as they aimed for a place in the 2005 Super League Grand Final.
He retired from representative rugby league last spring in order to concentrate on his career with the Knights.
And Gidley says that Johns, whose Newcastle contract runs out in 2008, relished his time in England.
"We couldn't shut him up talking about Warrington," added Gidley. "I'm sick of hearing about Warrington.
"He had a wonderful time there and he might even come back."
