Andrew Johns has confirmed he will be available for Australia's opening match of the Gillette Tri-Nations Series. The 31-year-old's short-term contract with Warrington came to an end on Saturday when the Wolves were knocked out of the Super League play-offs.
That means Johns will not feature in the Grand Final, which takes place on the same day as the match against New Zealand on 15 October.
Scrum-half Johns will win his 19th cap at the Telstra Stadium.
Australia coach Wayne Bennett has also called up six players from St George Illawarra to his training squad and two from Parramatta following the clubs' failure to reach the NRL Grand Final.
 | I'll admit I was hoping for the fairytale |
Meanwhile, Johns insisted he had no regrets over his three-match spell in Super League, which ended with defeat to Hull on Saturday.
"I'll admit I was hoping for the fairytale - to win a Super League medal with the Wolves," he told the Sydney Daily Telegraph newspaper.
"Maybe I had used up all my fairytales this year because it wasn't to be. Hull were simply too strong for us.
"I'm disappointed for the boys. I'm disappointed for the fans and I'm disappointed for coach Paul Cullen. He was shattered that our run ended the way it did.
"But I don't regret coming over here. It has been a sensational experience.
"The way we have been looked after and made to feel welcome has made it so easy for us. The friendships I have made here are friendships I will have for life."
