Demetriou scored in the Wildcats' loss to Leeds |
Skipper Jason Demetriou insists Wakefield Trinity Wildcats will make the Super League play-offs despite a run of one win in seven games. Wakefield are in ninth, two points adrift of Hull KR, after Friday's 28-22 defeat by Leeds Rhinos. "If we play like we did against Leeds then for the rest of the season we will make the top eight," the loose forward, 34, told the BBC's Super League Show. "Without doubt we are going in the right direction and are improving." Wakefield have been hit hard with injuries and departures this season which has resulted in their current run. That follows a promising start to the season which saw them win four of their opening six league matches. "We are not panicking that we are now out of the top eight after that loss and Hull KR's win. League position will change a lot over the season as teams' form changes," he added. "We just need to get on a little run and we'll be okay. If you win three or four games on the bounce then you find yourselves climbing three or four places in the league. "We had a great win over Harlequins then went to Headingley, which is always very tough for anyone to go, and played very well and could have won it. "So we just need to claim back-to-back wins soon and we'll be looking good."
