Terry Newton injury not serious - John Kear

Terry Newton
Newton started the game on the bench on Sunday

Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have been handed a positive fitness verdict over ex-Great Britain hooker Terry Newton.

The former Leeds, Wigan and Bradford forward was thought to have suffered a serious bicep injury in Saturday's 18-10 Super League win at Harlequins.

But Wildcats head coach John Kear said: "The scan shows it's not serious.

"He has a chance of being fit to play Catalans in our opening home game. And he'll certainly be fit in time to play against Leeds the following Sunday."

Wakefield go into this Sunday's game against Catalans with a great chance of starting the season with back-to-back wins after last Sunday's win at The Stoop.
