Roby scored 13 tries in 26 appearances for St Helens last season |
St Helens hooker James Roby says he believes the side have the ability to win their first Super League Grand Final trophy in four seasons. Saints were runners up to Wigan in the Grand Final last season after the Warriors won 22-12 at Old Trafford. "We have not won a trophy in a few years and for a club like St Helens it hurts not to win finals," said Roby. "With the introduction of the new coach there is no reason why we won't win silverware this year." The 25-year-old added: "We are building up to the first game against Wigan at the Millennium Magic weekend (on 12 February). "It's going to be a big game with a lot of attention as it is a rematch of last year's Super League Grand Final." Roby continued: "We won't think about the pressure too much but just prepare as normal and concentrate on what we need to do. I am confident that if we play as we know we can we will be fine. "At the beginning of every season there seems to always be some upsets so there could be some very interesting games in Cardiff. | This is where I want to be, I am a St Helens lad born and bred and I love this club St Helens hooker James Roby |
"It will be a great weekend for everyone involved in Rugby League, especially the fans. We want to put in a performance worthy for the event." Roby's future was the subject of much speculation during the 2010 Four Nations in Australia and New Zealand but the England international recently made his commitment to St Helens clear by penning a new three-year contract. "I signed a new deal with St Helens which keeps me here an additional three years and I am very happy at St Helens," said Roby. "This is where I want to be, I am a St Helens lad born and bred and I love this club. At this point in my life, I don't want to be anywhere else."
