McRae praises Ratchford character

Shaun McRae
McRae's side have lost two of their last three Super League games.

Salford City Reds boss Shaun McRae has praised the character of utility back Stefan Ratchford.

Ratchford, 20, was outstanding in the Reds' 24-4 victory against Huddersfield at the Galpharm Stadium on Sunday.

McRae told BBC Radio Manchester: "That's what I've been saying about Ratchford. He will sit down, bide his time and wait and wait and wait.

"Then there is an opportunity for him at stand-off which he has taken with both hands."

He added: "The half-backs have been terrific and that's nice to have.

"It's nice to know that if a guy like Jeremy Smith can't make your team because of selection - not because of injury - that shows you the kind of depth you're able to get in your club and that's what we want.

"So now I've got that selection headache I suppose which is a nice headache to have - you don't need a lot of painkillers for that type of headache."
