Cashmere keen to play for Salford

Cashmere is embracing the change in lifestyle from his native Australia

Salford Reds new Australian prop forward Ray Cashmere says he cannot wait to play rugby in the snow.

Cashmere arrived from his former club North Queensland Cowboys ready for pre-season training in November.

He told BBC Radio Manchester: "I have never played in the snow or even weather this cold but I am definitely looking forward to it.

"I have heard Salford is a great place to play and I can't wait for it now as it looks a pretty fast game."

He added: "Playing in the Super League was always something I wanted to do.

"The forwards here certainly look a bit more solid though I'm not sure if that's not just the way they look on TV. So the big difference I've seen would be the speed of the game.

"You spend a lot of time outdoors in Australia and obviously you can't do that here at this time of year. My little boy Charlie and wife Sarah are getting used to things over here.

"Obviously, they spend a lot of time indoors and they look forward to me getting home but they're enjoying it so far.

"I reckon there would be great expectations from the public for the new season and also from within the club.

"No matter what competition you're in, you always want to win - you don't go into the season with any expectation below wanting make the play-offs so I reckon that's what we'll be focused on this year."
