Harlequins half-back Luke Gale has signed a new three-year contract, keeping him at the Stoop until 2012.

The 21-year-old is the first player to commit his future to the Quins beyond the current Super League licence, which runs out at the end of the 2011 season.

Gale said: "I had no doubts about committing myself to the club for the next three years.

"I'm working with a great team and coaching staff and look forward to what the coming seasons bring."

Gale began his career in the Leeds Rhinos academy and moved on to Doncaster before joining Quins in September 2008.

He made 21 appearances last season and was named the club's young player of the year.

Head coach Brian McDermott said: "Although we had a difficult end to last season, Luke could hold his head high thanks to his effort and determination throughout the year.

"He is one of a group of players that want to represent London Rugby League and his new deal signified his commitment to this and Harlequins."
