McDermott is entering his third season as Harlequins RL boss

Harlequins head coach Brian McDermott believes he has the most balanced squad that the capital has seen in years.

"This is the most balanced and controlled squad that London, not just Harlequins, has had for many a year," McDermott told BBC London 94.9.

"I can't really put across how strongly I feel that the group we have are all here for the right reasons."

Quins kick off their Super League XIV season against Bradford at Twickenham Stoop on Sunday.

"I don't think I've a man in my squad that doesn't want to be here, and doesn't genuinely want us to win a trophy," McDermott continued.

"There has been higher-profile players, and individually probably better players, but I would argue now that this is the best balanced squad for quite some time.
