Richard Horne tries to stop Danny Orr in his tracks |
Harlequins recovered from last week's heavy defeat by Huddersfield with a hard-fought win over Hull. Second-half tries from David Howell and Jason Golden proved crucial in a bruising battle. After an early Danny Tickle penalty, Tony Clubb responded only for Kirk Yeaman to level it by the break. In a livelier second half, Golden scored before Craig Hall crossed for Hull, but Howell's try and three Danny Orr kicks sealed the win.
Harlequins coach Brian McDermott: "It was a great performance. The weather was always going to make it difficult to do what we wanted to do, and I always felt the side that made the least errors would come out on top. "That was us, and the boys really had a point to prove after we shipped 46 points last week. "Defences are so smart in the game today that you often have to make high risk plays just to get down the field, and they came off for us today." Hull coach Richard Agar: "We have to learn how to win tight contests like this, as we were poor in the second half. "It was a real 'roll your sleeves up and see who blinks first' game, and we were taught a real lesson. "We should have scored more points in the first half, and when we came away from the gameplan in the second half we got stung. There is a very fine line between winning and losing at this level."
