Hull v Castleford

Brent Sherwin's 77th-minute drop goal helped Castleford end Hull FC's superb 100% start to Super League XIV.

The home side looked to be heading for their sixth straight win thanks to a hat-trick of tries from Graeme Horne.

Graeme's elder brother Richard also crossed, but Danny Tickle could only kick one of his four conversions.

Kirk Dixon, Joe Westerman and Ryan McGoldrick scored tries for Terry Matterson's Tigers, who have now won four of their six games.

Castleford coach Terry Matterson:

"It was a really good game, a real strong defensive game. We were behind the eight ball from the first minute when they scored in the first set, but we're working hard for each other, we looked the stronger at the back end of the game and I think we got what we deserved.

"It came down to defence and a field goal at the end. I'm really pleased. Any win out here is a great win. I'll take them any day, no matter how we get them.

"The biggest thing I'm pleased about, besides the winning, is that we're in the game to the last minute and you're going to win your fair share with Brent Sherwin and Ryan McGoldrick in your team calling the shots. I felt we got what we deserved."

Hull FC coach Richard Agar:

"I'm massively disappointed but ultimately we were the masters of our own downfall. Offensively we were littered with errors which robbed us of energy and a lot of field position.

"It was so far across the board that it's pretty hard to pinpoint any particular reason why we got beat. We gave up a lot of football in the first half, tried offloads that weren't particularly on, the rot had set in and we never got away from that for the entire 80 minutes.

"It's a pretty disconsolate changing room in there. We weren't going to go the full season unbeaten, that's for sure.

"We played a side tonight that like playing with the ball but we were too nice and gave them too much ball to play with. The challenge for us is how we handle this defeat. It's all part and parcel of the game."
