Brian McClennan never considered Leeds Rhinos exit

Leeds Rhinos coach Brian McClennan says it never crossed his mind to leave Headingley at the end of the season.

He signed a 12-month contract extension earlier this week to commit himself to the club until the end of 2011.

When asked if there had been a chance of him leaving, the New Zealander told BBC Radio Leeds: "No, I never knew that was being considered.

"I've been enjoying my stay and happy to be here in 2010. I'm happy that the family is happy."

McClennan, who was out of contract at the end of Super League XV, said: "The kids are settled at school. My wife's happy here and the players don't mind having me around.

Hopefully we can kick on and make this a special year and then 2011 promises to be a great opportunity to do something special as well

"It's a wonderful club with great coaching staff and lead really well.

"I'm grateful to have the opportunity to stay involved with such a wonderful club.

"Hopefully we can kick on and make this a special year and then 2011 promises to be a great opportunity to do something special as well."

As McClennan prepares his side for Saturday's Challenge Cup quarter-final against Wigan at 1430 BST, he refuses to admit that his failure to win the trophy is a frustration to him.

He said: "It hasn't been a frustration really because I've been very proud of our efforts in the Challenge Cup.

"We've tried very hard in the past and we'll try our best again this year and you can't ask for any more than that. We're excited by the challenge Wigan pose and we'll be doing our best."
