Adams fell short of what would have been a ninth first-class hundred |
Jimmy Adams hit 82 as Hampshire battled back against Yorkshire on day two at The Rose Bowl. Adams struck 12 fours and shared a third-wicket stand of 94 with Neil McKenzie (48 not out) as Hampshire closed on 162-3 to trial by 253. Earlier, Yorkshire moved from their overnight 300-3 to 415 all out. Despite 51 from Adil Rashid, the Tykes lost their last seven wickets for 88 runs, with young paceman David Balcombe picking up 3-69. With Anthony McGrath resuming on 55 and captain Andrew Gale unbeaten on 38, Yorkshire had looked set for a mammoth total. But McGrath nicked James Tomlinson (3-115) through to wicketkeeper Nic Pothas in the 10th over of the day and Gale fell in a similar fashion to Dominic Cork (3-78) soon after to signal the start of the Yorkshire collapse. Adams and opening partner Michael Carberry took the Hampshire score to 49 before Carberry clipped a catch back to Rashid (2-40), with Michael Lumb top-edging the same bowler to Jacques Rudolph moments later. McKenzie arrived to help steer the home side away from trouble, but Adams would fall to seamer Oliver Hannon-Dalby in fading light late in the day.
