Lyth celebrates reaching three figures at The Rose Bowl
Adam Lyth continued his rich vein of form as Yorkshire took charge against Hampshire on day one at The Rose Bowl. Lyth, who hit 142 and 93 in last week's defeat at Somerset, plundered 133 in a first-wicket stand of 195 with Joe Sayers (49). But both men fell in quick succession and were soon followed by Jacques Rudolph as Yorkshire slipped to 215-3. But Anthony McGrath (55 not out) and captain Andrew Gale (38 not out) guided the Tykes to 300-3 by the close. Hampshire captain Nic Pothas surprisingly invited Yorkshire to bat after winning the toss and was made to instantly rue his decision as Lyth and Sayers reached 41 in the first four overs. | 606: DEBATE |
Sayers went to lunch on 79 and went on to complete his second century of the season from 157 balls. He would become the first to depart, hitting James Tomlinson (1-90) to long off before Sayers and Rudolph were both removed by Dominic Cork (2-50). But Hampshire were to enjoy no more success as McGrath and Gale confirmed Yorkshire's dominance by regularly despatching the second new ball to the boundary.
