Sinfield is a former team-mate of Terry Newton with Leeds and Great Britain |
Leeds Rhinos captain Kevin Sinfield is calling for more drug-testing in Rugby League following Terry Newton's two-year ban for taking a banned substance. "We do a lot of testing, more than a lot of other sports, but you can always do much more," said Sinfield. "I think there should be more testing and that it should be more stringent. "I know there is a cost implication in all this, so the RFL do well with what they do currently," he told the BBC's Super League Show. "There is a campaign called '100 per cent me' and that is about putting the responsibility back on the players in what they put in their bodies. "But I think there could be more awareness and education on all this." Former Leeds, Wigan and Bradford hooker Newton had his contract cancelled by Wakefield on Monday after he opted not to contest a drug-taking charge - thereby earning an automatic two-year ban.
