Luciano Becchio scored twice in eight second-half minutes to lift the tension at Elland Road as Leeds beat Oldham to get their promotion bid back on course.
Becchio was left with a 53rd minute tap-in when Jermaine Beckford cut in from the left and his shot was parried by Dean Brill to the Argentine.
Seven minutes later Robert Snodgrass supplied a pinpoint cross for Becchio to head past Oldham keeper Dean Brill.
Leeds were largely on top and also had two penalty claims turned down.
Leeds United manager Simon Grayson told BBC Radio Leeds:
"I'm delighted with the way we played. We knew it would be very difficult coming into this game with the way we've played in the last two home matches, but we were very good this time around.
"We controlled the game very well from the start. The players put in a very professional performance and that was good to see.
"Once we got the first goal it settled us down, renewed our confidence and we started to look like a good and confident team again."
