Toopi faces lay-off after surgery
Clinton Toopi
Toopi's injury proved to be even worse than originally feared
Leeds Rhinos centre Clinton Toopi may be sidelined until late August after having surgery on his shoulder.

The 28-year-old New Zealander was injured in the World Club Challenge win over Melbourne Storm in late February.

Initial estimations for his lay-off were up to four months but the damage proved more serious than first thought and reconstruction was required.

"That has lengthened his rehabilitation but we're confident he'll be back in the next five months," the club said.

Leeds coach Brian McClennan looked forward to welcoming his Kiwi centre back.

"Toops will handle the setback really well, he will rehab well and I have no doubt he will come back stronger," he said.

Head physiotherapist Meirion Jones will help co-ordinate Toopi's recovery and believes he is on course.

"He has had the operation straight away and the surgeon is happy with how that went," he said.
