Hull Kingston Rovers dusted off the pre-season cobwebs with a 16-4 win at Batley in their first game of 2009, scoring three tries in the process.

Chaz I'Anson, Shaun Briscoe and Chev Walker crossed the Bulldogs line and Rovers coach Justin Morgan was satisfied with what he saw.

He told BBC Radio Humberside: "The effort across the board was pretty good for a first hit out.

"There were some good performances, particularly in the first half."

The Robins took 24 players to Mount Pleasant for the game against the National League side and Morgan took the opportunity to get all of them on to the field at some stage during the match.

He rotated the players throughout and, despite the fact that as Super League club they were expected to rattle up more points, Morgan said he was not disappointed with the final scoreline.

"We had a lot of changes positionally especially in the second half and we saw players scramble and defend well and there were some good signs but we do have some areas of our game we need to work on."
