Hull Kingston Rovers have handed prop forward Liam Watts a new two-year extended contract.

The deal keeps the 6ft 2in 17-year-old at Craven Park until the end of the 2010 season.

"It's great to have this opportunity and I can't wait to be pushing for a regular first team spot," he said.

Watts came from the Castleford Tigers Youth Academy at the beginning of the season and impressed in the under-18's and the reserves.

Robins coach Justin Morgan said: "This is a fantastic opportunity and I look forward to monitoring his progress."

Watts made a try-scoring first-team debut in the Challenge Cup demolition at National League Two side Workington Town last month.

He then made his Super League debut two weeks ago in the home victory over Harlequins.

Morgan has so far been very pleased with his youngster's development: "I'm confident that he can become a very good player. He possesses a great off-loading ability and certainly hasn't looked out of place when he's come into the first team this season.

"It will be of huge benefit to him as player to be playing along side experienced campaigners such as Mick Vella, Clint Newton and David Mills."

Watts added: "I love playing rugby league, I'm really enjoying my time here at Rovers and it was an easy decision to make in signing for a further two years."
