Morgan won promotion in his first season in charge at Rovers |
Hull Kingston Rovers coach Justin Morgan says his team must learn how to deal with defeat in their first season in Super League. Rovers went 24 games unbeaten in 2006, but Morgan told BBC Sport he was braced for a tougher test this year.
"We have to be prepared to compete, not get the result, turn round and do it again the next week," he said.
"We have to be realistic. Last year we put in effort and got results, but this year those efforts won't be enough."
Rovers have been out of the top flight for nearly 20 years, and the revival of rugby league's one true cross-city rivalry - with Hull FC - means there is huge anticipation of Rovers' Super League debut.
But Morgan said they must ensure the pressure did not work against them.
"There will be a lot of expectation from fans and the public which we'll have to deal with, and not let it affect our day to day preparation," he said.
"The biggest challenges we face are the intensity of the rugby played every week, and the mental side.
"For every team there are peaks and troughs, so it's about minimising the effect the troughs have on your team and making sure they're not too deep."
Hull KR kick off their Super League campaign with a home game against Wakefield on Saturday, 10 February (1800 GMT).
