Webster played one game for Hull FC in 2008 |
Hull FC coach Richard Agar hopes new assistant coach James Webster will stay beyond the end of the season. The 30-year-old, who played one game for Hull in 2008, has joined on a short-term deal until October. Agar told BBC Radio Humberside: "Hopefully for both parties it will be a longer-term arrangement. "Coaching opportunities are hard to come by so he's in the right place at the right time and he has certainly got off on the right foot." The Australian, who had been working with Hull's under-20's, was released as a player by Championship side Widnes Vikings earlier this month. | No, plain and simple. The salary cap wouldn't permit it and that's not why we've brought James here Hull FC coach Richard Agar denies James Webster could play for Hull |
He previously played for cross-city rivals Hull Kingston Rovers, captaining them to a National One Grand Final victory and a first place in the Super League. He was released by the Robins in the middle of the 2008 season and joined the Black & Whites soon afterwards. However delays over his application for British citizenship meant that Webster only made one appearance, a 36-8 defeat by his former club. And Agar is quick to point out that they have no plans to utilise him in a on-field capacity. "No, plain and simple. The salary cap wouldn't permit it and that's not why we've brought James here," he said.
