Crocker has warned that he may have to take some time out of the game |
Hull FC signing Michael Crocker's latest application for a UK visa has been rejected by the Home Office. The Australia Test forward, 28, had been due to arrive in Hull in January, but the move was delayed when his original visa bid was refused. The Airlie Birds say the former Melbourne Storm back-rower has not been sent the official reasons in writing. But the club believe the rejection is linked to the first ruling, made because of Crocker's affray conviction. The decision ends almost six months of waiting for Crocker, who said in January he might have to take a year out from rugby league if the move to the KC Stadium fell through. Chief executive James Rule said: "This is a devastating decision for Michael and for Hull FC. | The only slight positive in this sad news is that we at least finally know where we stand Hull FC chief executive James Rule |
"I wish to thank Michael for his loyalty and patience throughout this period, which I know has been hugely stressful for him and his wife Sally. "As a club we tried everything we could think of to bring Michael into the country, which included contacting West Hull MP and Secretary of State for Health Alan Johnson. "I wish to thank Alan for his efforts in assisting us to the best of his ability. "As bitterly disappointed as we are we must move on with our recruitment for 2010," Rule added. "The biggest difficulty we have had throughout this process is the not knowing whether Michael would be joining us or not, and the knock-on effects that has in the terms of planning for 2010 and beyond. | 606: DEBATE |
"The only slight positive in this sad news is that we at least finally know where we stand." However, Rule said he was confident there would be no similar outcome for New Zealand international Hame Lauaki, who is still waiting for a decision on his application. "We are confident Hame will get his visa - it is just a case of when and not if," he said.
