Jamie Thackray's dramatic last-ditch try saw Hull steal two points from Wakefield in a Super League thriller.

Both sides produced great comeback spells but it was Hull who moved to within two points of leaders Leeds.

Hull trailed the visitors by a point with a minute left when prop Thackray forced himself over the line.

Earlier, the home side raced into a 14-0 lead but then found themselves trailing 22-16 and 33-28 as Wakefield refused to lie down.

Hull coach John Kear said his side showed championship attitude after coming from behind down to claim victory.

"I've said to the players that teams that win championships win games like the one we just have," he said.

"We hung in there even when we weren't playing well but the character that the side have shown was first class.

"What we have done is what Bradford and St Helens have done over the last few weeks, dig in and get a result when it's looked like we won't get one.

"A lot of players did a lot of good things but we have conceded 33 points and need to address why."

Wakefield coach Shane McNally was unhappy with the performance of referee Ronnie Laughton.

"The outside influence of the referee hasn't helped us and he has made some calls that have cost us points at crucial times," he said.

"My players tell me that the Hull players were telling him how to ref and if that's the case then I'm not very happy.

"I'm massively disappointed to come away without anything as I thought we were the better side for long periods."
