MATCH SUMMARY
Wakefield (24) 38
Tries: Jeffries 2, Domic 2, Obst , Demetriou, O'Neill Goals: Rooney 5
Leigh (14) 26
Tries: Maden, Turley, Fleary, Govin Goals: Turley 3, Jones 2.
Wakefield got back to winning ways in Super League with an unconvincing win over battling Leigh.

A 90-metre try from scrum-half Ben Jeffries just after the hour looked to have killed off the visitors.

And they made the game doubly safe when loose-forward Julian O'Neill went over to make it 38-20 six minutes later.

But the Centurions refused to surrender and substitute Mick Govin crossed from close range with Phil Jones converting to give Leigh the final word.

Wakefield had made the perfect start to the second half with a try for skipper Jason Demetriou on 42 minutes.

We got the two points but I wasn't happy with our defence - I thought it was poor - a hangover from last week
Wakefield boss Shane McNally

But as they had all game, Leigh hit back and debutant Darren Fleary crashed over by the upright.

Jones' conversion cut the gap to just 10 points and Wakefield could not afford to relax, even after Fleary was sin-binned for an off-the-ball incident two minutes after scoring.

Wildcats held a 10-point advantage at the break as well, but for long periods of the first half were second best to the visitors.

Wakefield started positively enough with a try for Jeffries in only the fourth minute, converted by Jamie Rooney, who went on to kick four first-half conversions.

Our fitness levels were far greater than Wakefield's - we could have done with another try and they were banking on the hooter going
Leigh coach Darren Abram

Neil Turley cut the gap with a ninth-minute penalty before winger Steve Maden levelled with a try 10 minutes later. Turley converted to nose the visitors ahead.

But centre Sid Domic, playing his first game since a hernia operation, scored twice in as many minutes to put Wakefield in control at 16-8.

Turley's self-converted try in the 33rd minute made things interesting but again Wakefield showed just enough extra skill for substitute hooker Sam Obst to score his first try in Super League.

But this score came only moments after Leigh had had a try ruled out for a forward pass, showing the visitors were still very much in contention.
