Super League newcomers Leigh are still looking for their first win of the season after being handed a heavy defeat by Salford on Saturday.

Karl Harrison's side were dominant, running in three tries in each half.

The visitors were superbly organised by hooker Malcolm Alker and former Wigan scrum-half Luke Robinson.

The home side lost skipper Jason Ferris through injury and had prop Richard Moore put on report for allegedly using his knees in the tackle.

David Hodgson gave the Reds the lead when he touched down in the right corner after a great break out of defence from Anthony Stewart.

Then Mark Shipway and Karl Fitzpatrick increased the lead to 16 points before the break.

I have already seen the directors and they are very supportive... they've said it's not the coaching staff
Leigh coach Darren Abram

The home crowd got something to cheer about on 46 minutes when centre Phil Jones took a long pass from stand-off Jason Kent to glide through for a try.

But Salford added three tries through Kevin McGuinness, Gareth Haggerty and Ian Sibbit to seal a comfortable win.

Leigh coach Darren Abram is confident he can resurrect his side's fortunes in the wake of their mauling by Salford.

"We'll keep going," he said. "I have already seen the directors and they are very supportive. They've said it's not the coaching staff.

Without being disrespectful, they (Leigh) have signed players who nobody else wants
Salford coach Karl Harrison
"It's the concentration levels, not fitness levels. For 15 minutes we handled it and then fell away."

Newcomers Leigh are still searching for their first win in Super League after the 32-6 home defeat to the Reds.

Karl Harrison said he had a lot of sympathy for Leigh after Saturday's six-try victory over the Centurions.

"They only had a short turn-around from the National League Grand Final to the start of Super League," said the Salford coach.

"Without being disrespectful, they have signed players who nobody else wants."

Harrison added: "Defensively we were pretty good. We are still a bit off the mark offensively but we are certainly moving in the right direction."
