Huddersfield Giants have signed Wigan academy back-row forward Matthew Sarsfield on a three-year contract.

The 18-year-old was a member of the England Schoolboys team that defeated the touring Australian Schoolboys side in December.

Giants managing director Richard Thewlis said: "It's a super signing for us and shows how highly we are now regarded by top-line players."

Sarsfield is expected to appear in his new club colours at Batley on Sunday.

Sarsfield joins another former Warriors academy player, Jon Molloy, who left Wigan for Huddersfield last November.
