Keith Mason confident of further Giants' success

Forward Keith Mason believes Huddersfield Giants will be serious contenders for silverware in 2011.

The Giants enjoyed their most successful campaign ever in 2010, as they reached the Super League semi-finals for the first time.

But with the signings made by the Giants over the close season, Mason feels they can go further.

"I think next year will be the year we really step up to the mark," Mason told BBC Radio Leeds.

"We have had two good years and achieved a lot and we feel we are progressing all the time.

"Fair play to Nathan Brown [head coach], he has brought a winning mentality to the club and a great work ethic, which combines well with the great players we have here.

"I think we can play some really good football this coming year and a lot of teams fear us because we have some good younger players in this team.

"You have Leeds, St Helens and Bradford, teams like that who have been at the top and are great sides, but we've evolved into one of those sides now, even though we haven't won trophies.

"Hopefully, touch wood, this will be the season we do win something."

The Giants have snapped up young British talent in the likes of Joe Wardle and Matthew Dawson for the 2011 season, but with overseas quota spots still to be filled, are keen to add more Australian NRL experience to their squad.
