Huddersfield Giants have signed England academy hooker Keal Carlile from local rivals Bradford Bulls. The 18-year-old has signed a three-year contract after the Super League clubs agreed an undisclosed fee. He said: "I am looking forwards to a new start at a club that has tremendous facilities and potential. "I can't wait to get stuck into pre-season with [incoming head coach] Nathan Brown and hopefully catch his eye to get a Super League start." Carlile, who made two Super League appearances for Bulls last season, added: "I know that there are a lot of good players at Huddersfield but I am confident in my own ability to make the breakthrough." | 606: DEBATE |
The teenager impressed on the recent England tour to Australia and joins fellow international tourist Michael Lawrence at the Giants. Giants managing director Richard Thewlis said: "It is important that we underpin some of our headline grabbing signings with youngsters of the highest quality. "In Keal we believe we have a potential star of the future and having already made his Super League debut last year and then being selected as the top hooker for England [academy] he clearly ticks every box for quality. "He now has three years to establish himself as a Super League professional and, in a similar fashion to Shaun Lunt, is a player that will be groomed for the longer-term future."
