Huddersfield Giants have signed Australian stand-off Todd Carney on a three-year contract. The 22-year-old was axed by Canberra Raiders in July following a succession of off-the-field problems and banned from playing in the NRL until 2010. Carney told the Giants website: "I see this move as a fresh start for me away from the issues in the NRL and I can't wait to get cracking." Giants head coach Nathan Brown added: "There is no doubting Todd's ability." Wigan had been linked with a move for Carney as a replacement for the departing Trent Barrett. "I asked my manager to get me a club that can win things and the ambition shown by Huddersfield has convinced me that they can do just that," Carney added. "Along with Brett Hodgson, who I know from the NRL, they have other international players in key positions and a host of established British players ready to take the next step forward and make the club a real force in the Super League. "I would like to thank the club for having the confidence in me and I look forward to repaying that on and off the field and getting back into training and playing the game I love." "Such is his standing in the game that I believe he had the pick of most of the teams in the competition so, again, for us to be his choice gives me great confidence that we can attract the world's best players to Huddersfield to add to an already strong roster." Meanwhile, Giants forward Stephen Wild has more reason than most to score a try in Saturday's game at Warrington. Wild is yet to score this season and failure to do so against the Wolves could prove embarrassing for the 27-year-old, as team-mate Andy Raleigh explained. "The rules are that if you've played a Super League game and you don't score [during the season] then at the end of the year you have to do a nude run," Raleigh told BBC Radio Leeds. "He's been back playing now and he hasn't managed to get over the try line so he's getting some stick."
