Pelo was in the France squad for the 2008 Rugby League World Cup

Catalans have released winger Dimitri Pelo after receiving compensation from rugby union club Montpellier.

The Dragons were initially unwilling to let the 25-year-old walk out on the final three months of his contract.

Catalans president Bernard Guasch said: "It is unthinkable to let our winger leave before the end of his contract but an agreement has now been reached."

Catalans cannot make the Super League play-offs and have just two games remaining after a disappointing season.

Pelo was contracted until the end of November but the Top 14 team wanted to sign Pelo immediately.
